Child of St Kilda

Nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal 2020. This book follows the story of Norman John Gillies, one of the last children ever to live on the remote Scottish island of Hirta, St Kilda, before the entire population was evacuated to the British mainland in 1930. To research the book, I worked closely with the family of Norman John, and travelled out to St Kilda in June 2017. All illustrations were handmade using mono-print with digital edits.
